Who We Are...
Community Engagement covers the ideology of the previous Crime Watch Unit whose mission was to strengthen community and civic life by neighbors knowing and helping neighbors, and businesses helping businesses.

Crime in fact occurs in specific and identifiable places and it has become apparent that the responsibility for altering the nature of these localities does not lie solely with the police. In many cases it is the community itself whose efforts assist in making the identified places safer.

As crime is clearly the problem that most profoundly impacts citizens’ lives, safety is a key concern for our community. Citizens hope to live their lives without fear, raise healthy families, and run prosperous businesses. But crime, violence, and victimization in the community can interfere with these dreams. Therefore, it is imperative that the police department and the community become proactive in securing businesses and neighborhoods through communication and collaboration.
