V.I.P.S. Program
Overview
V.I.P.S. stands for Volunteers in Police Services.

Some of the functions of V.I.P.S include:

Connecting with the community to make a difference in our City of Fremont through a variety of programs: Disabled Parking enforcement, Child Safety Seat Inspections, Y.A.N.A Program, and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Inspections. V.I.P.S. assist the Police Department by providing resources to the community, responding to requests for neighborhood patrol checks; vacation checks, and reporting suspicious activity.

V.I.P.S also engage with the community by presenting safety information at special events and community meetings.


Mission
The V.I.P.S. Program helps support the goals and mission of the Fremont Police Department by developing and strengthening partnerships and relationships between the department and the community. Our pledge is to recruit, train, and retain talented volunteers who will be encouraged to participate in meaningful community safety, security, and service programs.

Requirements
Requirements for the V.I.P.S Program include the following:
  • Ability to commit 16 hours a month to the program
  • Be in satisfactory medical condition
  • Be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation
  • Currently live or work in Fremont
  • Fingerprint clearance
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • No felony convictions
  • No misdemeanor convictions within three years
  • Overall approval by the Chief of Police
  • Possess a valid California driver's license (if driving is required for assignment)
  • Preferred: graduate of the Fremont Police Department's Citizens' Police Academy
