Employment Opportunities

Police Officer

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications on a continuous basis. Click here to download a job announcement. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be invited to participate in the testing process. The testing process for entry level applicants, academy graduates, and lateral officers consists of successful completion of the following phases: written examination, physical agility test, and oral board interview. Please check back at this website for updates.

Written Examination
If you have already submitted an application, you will receive an invitation by mail to a future written examination. If you have taken our written examination within the past 12 months, you may not apply. You must wait 12 months from the date of your written examination before testing again. Our next entry level Police Officer written exam will be held in Spring 2008, and the date is to be determined.

If you have applied but did not receive an invitation to the written exam, you may "drop in" for the test with the possibility of filling a vacant slot. Thirty minutes prior to the exam start time, we will start handing out numbers to the "drop-ins." Fifteen minutes prior to the exam start time, we will begin drawing numbers at random and will continue to draw numbers until we reach our testing capacity.

Physical Agility Test
Applicants who pass the written examination will be invited to participate in the second phase of the exam process, the PRACTICE and OFFICIAL Physical Agility Test. If you have already passed our written examination within the last 12 months but have not yet taken or passed the Physical Agility Test, you may be eligible to particpate. Drop-ins, guests, or observers will not be admitted to the Physical Agility Test site.

This test measures performance during a timed obstacle course and rescue exercise, which simulates frequently encountered, job-related physical tasks performed by Police Officers. Click on the following link for an updated description of the Physical Agility Test.
