This year the Fremont Police Department continues to support the Special Olympics Northern California by announcing its Battle of the Badges event series. This year we are offering three amazing events to help raise funds for the 22,000 athletes in Northern California.  We strive to promote inclusion, acceptance, unification and good sportsmanship through these charity events. The Special Olympics is committed to improving overall health and well-being of the individuals with intellectual disabilities through Healthy Athletes events, offering screenings and services free of charge.  We hope you join us in supporting our athletes reach for gold.

Fremont Guardians Unite 5k Run/Walk

The Fremont Police Department is hosting a 5k run/walk in support of Special Olympic athletes in 2020.  Participants of the Fremont Guardians Unite will have an exclusive opportunity to see the actual torch for this year’ Special Olympics NorCal Summer Games. You will be able to wind through the course with Fremont Guardians, receive high-fives from Special Olympic athletes, all while supporting the cause for inclusion. Our Fremont Guardians will line the course with inspirational quotes and milestone markers along the way to help keep participants smiling throughout the run. 

 Registration includes a special Fremont Guardians Unite headband. 2019 Torch Run T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event for $20.00.  Finishers will receive a medal sponsored by the Fremont Police Association.

Age-group medals (3 deep for each gender) will be awarded in the following divisions:

 The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, almost 110,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “flame of Hope”, symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe.

 The first 50 registrants will receive a free water bottle holder, perfect for race day hydration

Battle of the Badges Basketball Game

The Fremont Police and Fremont Fire Departments will face off at the Battle of the Badges charity basketball game, to benefit Special Olympics Northern California on April 27, 2019, at Washington High School. The doors open and the event will begin at 4:30 pm, with an intra-mural pregame basketball competition between City of Fremont employees from Public Works, Community Services and Community Development. Tip-off for the main event between Fremont Police and Fremont Fire will take place at 6:00 pm.

In addition to the exciting basketball games, the event will feature halftime entertainment, a silent auction, photo opportunities with police and fire staff and a variety of snacks, will available for sale.

Event Entry Fee:

We will be collecting $5 per person (children under 5 are free) at entrance of the event site.

Cash, card or checks (made out to Special Olympics of Northern California) will be accepted.
