Deaf Community Police Academy
Fall 2019 Deaf Community Police Academy Registration is Now Closed. 

Enrollment Information
The Deaf Community Police Academy is now closed for enrollment. Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-October. 

Please note submission of an application does not automatically guarantee enrollment.  The Fremont Police Department maintains the right to disqualify any applicant.  Applicants that are accepted into the program will be notified by mid-October.

Program Information
The Deaf Community Police Academy is a program that supports the concept of Community Members and Police working together to enhance the quality of life in our community. 

  1. What is Deaf Community Police Academy?  The academy is an 8 hour course designed to give community members a working knowledge of the Police Department. The Academy class will meet on 11/2/2019 from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (with one hour lunch break.) 

    The slogan of the Community Police Academy is Understanding Through Education. The Academy is being presented to provide attending community members basic information about the police profession and its policies and procedures. The ultimate goal of this program is to improve the relationship between the community and the police department. 

  2. Who may attend the Academy? Deaf individuals who attend the academy must be residents of Fremont, or work in Fremont. They must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Persons selected to attend the Academy are expected to attend all day.  If this is not possible, it is suggested that you do not apply because of the number of individuals wishing to participate.

    All eligible candidates are subject to a records check. A prior conviction will not automatically disqualify an applicant and will be considered only as it relates to the Academy program.

    This program was not designed for police officer candidates. It is an overview of the police department for the purpose of community members.

  3. Is there a fee for the Academy? No fee is charged to attend the academy. Our officers and other personnel teaching in the Academy provide their services and expertise to the members of the class as part of the program.

  4. What subjects are taught in class? We will cover information from our traffic unit, discuss social media, text to 9-1-1 and fraud/identity theft. 

    Alumni of the Academy consistently comment that the most striking element of the program is the professionalism of the officers. 

  5. How will this help? The Fremont Police Department believes public opinion an knowledge are essential in establishing the community policing concept. Opinions provided from community members will play a vital role in the future of your police department.

    We hope the Community Academy graduates will share their knowledge of the police department with other members of the community when the opportunity presents itself.


Applicant Requirements
The Deaf Community Police Academy is limited to a maximum of 20 students.

Participants in the Community Police Academy are granted access to restricted law enforcement facilities. Consequently, the Fremont Police Department maintains the right to disqualify any applicant without notification of cause. Applicants may undergo a background check at no cost. Applicants previously convicted may be disqualified as it relates to the Academy program.
